Childbirth

For births attended by a midwife, the birth is automatically registered and the parents do not need to take any further action.
If a midwife is not present at the birth, the parents must register the birth themselves with the parish where the mother resides.

Unmarried parents must register paternity by submitting a declaration of care and responsibility at www.borger.dk. The report must be made no later than 4 weeks after the birth of the child. This establishes paternity and gives you joint custody of the child.
The child must be named no later than 6 months after birth. This can be done by digital notification at www.borger.dk or in connection with baptism in church.
